Exercise

Exercise is good for everyone and is especially if you have Parkinsons, because your muscles and joints tend to get stiff/rigid and it can help relieve depression.

Exercise group or participating in a sporting activity can also help you make new friends.

Parkinson’s should not stop you accessing exercise, many people with Parkinson’s ski, sail, horse ride and more. If you feel you need guidance adapting an exercise you can contact your GP or PDNS and ask for referral.

There is a lot of evidence to show that exercise is beneficial for people with Parkinson’s and specific exercises created by the Parkinson’s disease society  are shown in research to help with balance and mobility.

In Southampton the Parkinson’s disease society Southampton branch with Vicky Queen, PDNS have set up an exercise group just for people with Parkinson’s based on the exercises shown to help in the latest research. The exercise group runs over two venues in Highfield and StDenys and runs in a six week course, carers are also able to attend. If you want to find out more or book place contact Vicky Queen, PDNS, whose details are on the contact us page.
