Younger people
Parkinson's disease is more common in older people,  it is estimated that of the 10,000 people are diagnosed each year 1 in 20 are under 40.

Younger people with Parkinson's can have challenges, such as looking after or haveing children, information about work and finances, and coping with the emotional effects of diagnosis.

In Southampton there is a Young onset support group run for people who where diagnosed under 60 years of age.

The Solent Early Onset Support group, is a Parkinson’s Disease support group for people who where diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease under the age of 60yrs of age. The group meets monthly on a Saturday and provides social support and also organises many trips and educational talks about recent advances in Parkinson’s Disease including Nutrition workshops. If you want to find out more you can contact the chair of this group Mary Shorter, whose details can be found in the Contact Us section.
